The following are highlights of the results for the Executive Summary of Alumni survey, taken in the Fall 2007 semester.

Demographics:

Of the respondents, 62% were female, and 38% were male.
- Survey includes alumni for the past fifteen years, beginning with those that graduated in 1990.
- 34% graduated from 1990 to 1995.
- 38% graduated from 1996 to 2000.
- 26% graduated from 2001 to 2007.
BYU and Sociology experience:
- 93% indicated a positive experience at BYU.
- 91% indicated a positive experience with their education in sociology.
Upon graduation:
- Courses ranked most valuable since graduation: family, statistics and data analysis, and Senior level courses (in that order).
- The year following graduation, 55% were working full time, 19% were full-time homemakers, 10% were full-time students, and 9% were working part-time.
- Five years following graduation, 49% were working full time, 32% were full-time homemakers, 12% were working part-time, and 5% were full-time students.
Graduate school:
- 43% continued their education at graduate levels.
- Highest degrees obtained among alumni:
- BS or BA 64%
- Master's 24%
- JD 4%
- PhD 4%
- MD or DDS 1%
- Other 3%
- Courses ranked most valuable for students in graduate school: Research methods, Statistics and data analysis, Senior level courses, and Inequality/diversity (in that order).
First job:
- 45% either agreed or strongly agreed that the
sociology degree played a significant role in their first job, 18% were
neutral, and 38% either disagreed or strongly disagreed.
- 58% indicated positively on the satisfaction scale for their first job, 17% were neutral, and 25% indicated negatively.
- 96% indicated that they made less than $50,000/year at their first job, and 4% had made more.
- First job following graduation from BYU (in order of occurrence):
- Office assistant/ clerk/ secretarial
- Counselor or case worker
- Sales or Buyer for company
- Business management
- Research analyst/ data and technology
- Research assistant in graduate school
- Claims adjusters/ auditors/ account representatives
- Education (preschool, elementary, secondary, university)
- Financial/ loans/ mortgages

Current job:
- 63% either agreed or strongly agreed that the
sociology degree played a significant role in their current job, 21% were
neutral, and 16% either disagreed or strongly disagreed.
- 93% indicated positively on the satisfaction scale for their current job, 4% were neutral, and 3% indicated negatively.
- 43.6% indicated that they made less than $50,000/year at this job,
34.2% make more than $50,000 but less than $100,000, and 22.1% make
more than $100,000.
