Stan J. Knapp is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Brigham Young University. He has been teaching courses in social theory and family theory for over 30 years. His work in family theory has centered on questions of how to theorize marital quality, the ethical or moral dimension of marriage and family life, and the practice of science and claims of expertise in the formation of knowledge claims about marriage and family. His work in social theory has examined the relation between rationality (in its various forms), the moral/ethical dimension of human life, and the way in which claims of expertise are formed and established.

His research has appeared in journals such as Journal of Marriage and Family, Journal of Family Theory and Review, Sociological Methods and Research, The Sociological Quarterly, Current Perspectives in Social Theory, and Contemporary Perspectives on Family Research.
